The Chosen Ones

Photography essay on sexual diversity and the dance Tunantada, which is a way to strength the cultural, sexual, migrant and diverse identity.

Tunantada is an original dance from Jauja, a city in the Peruvian Andes.  However, it’s currently practiced in various other cities due to migration to the coast, particularly Lima, Peruvian capital.

In the beginning, the Tunantada was a form of mockery of colonial sibarytic dances. However, today it is part of Jauja’s pride for its elegance and composition, and at the complexity of the characters represented and music.

Likewise, this dance has been tapped by the sexual diversity, who had appropriated the female characters and used this dance as a platform of their own sexual identity.
